In the spring of 2017 the NYS Legislature approved funding for the quiet zone. In accordance with state procedures, the project was referred to the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) for review and approval. At the time of the referral we were advised by NYS legislative staff that the review by DASNY could take a year or more and that this length of time for review is not uncommon. Staff have informed us that the review should be completed in the next two months. After review by DASNY, the Albany County legislature must approve the receipt of funds and submit an application for funding. (The County is the applicant for the quiet zone since it owns the roads that cross the railroad tracks in Voorheesville).
In short we are making slow but steady progress.
The Committee for a Quiet Zone in Voorheesville would like to express its appreciation to Mayor Conway for his efforts to obtain funding for the quiet zone and to Albany County officials, Town of New Scotland officials, and NYS legislators – Senator Amedore and Assemblywoman Fahy whose support has been essential in making the project a reality.
